Enrich your customers’ stay with up-selling of products and services (and drive traffic back to your site)

Everyone who is running a business in tourism and travel aims to increase the average value per customer and stay. There are several reasons for this, but the main one is that running a business costs money – and you want profit. Customer acquisition is expensive, and visitors need service. With a high average customer value you make more without spending more. Keep on reading and find out how to increase your average customer value.  

So. What can you do to increase your average customer value? One way is to make sure they buy from you again. Two, or even three times. But depending on your product that can be easier said than done. Another way – and the one we’ll focus on here – is to make sure they purchase as many related products as possible before they arrive. Then, when they appear a few months later they had a few more paychecks and mentally a “new wallet”. Ready to spend more in your restaurant, giftshop or on other extras.

A committed customer is a good customer

When the purchase or booking is done, many barriers are torn down towards you. They trust you now. You have won the customer. But don’t spoil it! You have to take care of them, and play this ace up your sleeve with care. Though, it is a golden opportunity for you to influence them to create a more memorable stay – and increase the possibilities of adding to your revenue stream at the same time.

Tips: Crowded in the ski-rental at certain periods? Offer them 10 percent off when they pay and book online. Lose customers to guided tours outside your network? Give’em an offer they can’t refuse in the confirmation email.

Help yourself, your customers and allied businesses by offering more products

Other benefits of up-selling are that you can see indirect financial gain, even if it isn’t your product you’re selling. Either you take a percentage in commission from the external organizer, or you have an affiliate program, where you get paid or benefits for the traffic you refer to their site and booking.

Another option is of course that you do it without a financial agenda – you care about your guests having a unique and enjoyable time. And you do good for businesses outside your competition, but still share customers with. When they win, you win.

Get going with the up-sell feature in 12 easy steps

Help your customer find fun, interesting and related things when they experience your products. It’s good service and they’ll most definitely appreciate it. The feature is free to set up and will have have positive effects on your revenue. If you haven’t activated it yet, let us know. We help you!

After that – just do these twelve steps:

  1. Login to Citybreak and click the Distribution-tab in main menu (choose Point of Sales)
  2. In the left column click “Upsell” and then
  3. “Create new configuration”
  4. Name it and press “+ Create new upsell link
  5. Add product name, description and image (.jpg)
  6. Set the trigger rules
  7. Add the URL to the product you want to promote (tips: use UTM links to track your traffic)
  8. Press Save
  9. Go to Point of Sales (left column) and click the one associated to your email
  10. Scroll down to headline Choose message, configuration and channel
  11. Add your upsell under “Choose upsell configuration
  12. Save and you’re done.
